Build Triceps at Home
Poor, poor triceps muscle; he’s like the step-child or half-brother in a dysfunctional family. Only without red hair. We forget about him, and we seem to be only worried about the muscle ABOVE him, the biceps. The successful brother who went to college. It’s time to focus on the prodigal son, and I have a couple ideas on how to build triceps at home.
Bodybuilding Evolution – How Has It Changed?
Has bodybuilding and weight lifting changed over the years? Take one look at performers from even fifteen years ago, and the question becomes laughable.
Should I be Sore after Every Workout?
In a word, yes. But there’s a major difference between some good soreness and pain. Pain is no good.
Arm Blaster Workout
If you’ve ever done the Standing Barbell Curl, then Arm Blasters really shouldn’t be too hard for you to learn, as they’re essentially the same exercise. The difference is that you have equipment actually called an “Arm Blaster”.
Should Women Lift Weights?
Good God, yes. Well…if they want to. A woman is not – I repeat, NOT – going to look like Arnold Schwarzenegger from going to the gym, doing her routine, and lifting some good, old-fashioned heavy weights.
Incline Dumbbell Curl
We’ve all done the dumbbell curl, but if you’re really trying to isolate your biceps a little better (when I say “better”, I mean “without cheating as much”), then I completely recommend trying out the incline dumbbell curl. Here’s how it’s done:
Who Is Lee Haney?
When you speak of bodybuilding and building muscle – and you’ve been around the business for a while – the name Lee Haney certainly comes to mind.
What Are Triceps?
Triceps are one of those muscles that people miss all the time. They’re located behind your biceps, on the other side of your arms.
Wrestler’s Bridge Exercise
There are a few neck exercises out there that I feel really work. One of them is called the Wrestler’s Bridge.
Dorian Yates
Dorian Yates is a man synonymous with bodybuilding, and one who proved that being intelligent goes hand in hand with the sport.
What Are Lats?
Latissimus Dorsi, commonly referred to as your “lats”, are the triangular muscles that extend from under your armpits to your lower back (on both sides). Your lats are the largest muscles in your back, and actually the only ones that you can easily see from the front.
What Is a Military Press?
If you’re looking for a basic exercise to work out your front delts – and also to work out your side delts – then the military press is for you. Let’s talk about it:
What Is an Arnold Press?
Named after the man himself – Arnold Swarzenegger, of course – the “Arnold Press” is an exercise similar to the dumbbell press at first glance. But upon further examination, there are actually some very key differences.
Leg Curls
Unlike the dreaded leg extensions, leg curls don’t really seem all that difficult to do. Sure, they’re tiring, but since you’re lying down while performing this exercise (which I will describe in a moment), they just seem more bearable.
Seated Calf Raise
The seated calf raise, in my opinion, is the most effective exercise for working your calf muscles; specifically the soleus. (The soleus is a supporting calf muscle underneath the gastrocnemius.)
Nutrition Is Important for Hardgainers
Some bodybuilders are what we refer to as “hardgainers” (or hard gainers), and if you’re reading this article, it’s probably YOU. So you already know the importance of nutrition, right? Let’s explore.
How to Do Side Bends
We all remember the line, “You can do side bends or sit-ups…”, right? Maybe I’m showing my age with this one, but I certainly remember it. At the time, I wasn’t really sure what they were. Now I know, and I’d like to share with you the proper way to do this “controversial” exercise.
Leg Extensions
Leg extensions are by far the exercise I least enjoy doing. Don’t ask me why. I just don’t like them. Having said that, I do enjoy telling people the correct way to do them. Join me!
How to Do Dips
I love dips. Love them. And they’re fairly easy to do. But you’d be surprised how many people just aren’t doing them the right way, and tend to work either the “wrong” muscles or aren’t working the intended muscles properly or as well as they could be.
Avoiding Hamstring Injuries
I have a friend who had at one time been a personal trainer for a famous major league baseball player during the 1980s. This player had been notorious for hamstring injuries early in his career, until my friend took over. I asked him his secret.
Skull Crushers
Sounds terrible, doesn’t it? Well, they are! Terribly effective, that is. Skull crushers are a great alternative to some of the more traditional triceps workouts. If done properly, they really isolate the long head.
What Are Spider Curls?
Well, there are a ton of biceps exercises out there, and different people weigh in on which are the “best”. I can’t say. I WILL say that spider curls are a great addition to your routine, whether you’re a beginner, intermediate, or advanced weight trainer.
What Are Preacher Curls?
Contrary to popular belief – and by “popular belief”, I mean nobody believes this – preacher curls have absolutely nothing to do with Reverend Jim’s new haircut. Nothing.
Being a Good Weight Lifting Spotter
Do you use a spotter when you train? Are YOU a good spotter? Here are a few pointers that should help you become an excellent one, as well as assist you in picking out a good one for you.
What Is a Good Triceps Stretch?
There are a few different ways to stretch out your triceps, and I’d like to explain one of them to you today (my preferred one), and how to do them the RIGHT way.
Building My Triceps Muscles
I’m not going to say that people forget about building up their triceps muscles, but I will say that many people I know – even serious lifters – just aren’t isolating them like they could be. It’s a shame, too: the triceps muscles are extremely easy to work out, and results are typically rapid. And for you guys out there who love to flex in front of the ladies: having large triceps really gives you that added “oomph” in your arm.
How Do I Stretch My Quads?
If there’s anything I’ve tried to stress over the years, it’s to never stretch! Wait, no…it’s to ALWAYS stretch before beginning any workout in any realm of exercise. Think about it: what happens to your car in a cold climate when it’s ten degrees below zero if you just start it and go?? All kinds of nonsense; many things can easily break and snap. It’s the same with your body: your body is “cold” until you stretch it out. It takes only ten to twenty minutes, so come on, why not do it?
How Do I Work Out My Back?
The back is one of those areas a lot of us tend to forget about. Why? I’m not really sure, but looking back at when I first started working out, I suppose it was because I couldn’t really SEE it, so I wasn’t aware of how its shape really paled in comparison with the parts that “people see”. And by “people”, I suppose at the time, I meant “chicks” (Hey, we’ve all been young once!).
Calf Exercises
I have a couple calf exercises that I really feel do the trick. Ready?
The first is a standing calf raise, and this one is pretty easy to do, not to mention it’s widely considered to be the BEST exercise for your calf muscles.
What Are Lunges?
Lunges are what you breath with, silly! No…wait…those are LUNGS. My mistake! You’re asking about LUNGES, as in the workout type. Well, that I also know, and would be glad to explain what they are, how to do them, and what they’re good for.
What Is a Deadlift?
A deadlift is a type of bodybuilding exercise that can really build mass in your quadriceps, gluteal muscles, and hamstrings. There is some secondary workout on your abs and in your lower back (so this is ABSOLUTELY one to use caution with: injuries, anyone??).
What Are Antagonistic Muscles?
I’ve heard this question a few times, and when I first really started putting my mind into working out, I had to look it up myself (and this is back before there was really such a thing as “The Internet”, so you can imagine the hard work it was in opening up a book!).
How Can I Make Myself Work Out?
This is one of the most frequently-asked questions I’ve heard when it comes to weight training and building muscle; although actually, it’s not even usually asked as a question. Instead, it’s a lot of “I can’t do it”s or “I failed”s.
How to Do Pull-Ups
I’m sure we all remember having to do pull-ups back in high school, right? Well, I do, and it was embarrassing. Why? Because I could only do four. That’s right: four!

Best Clothes to Wear While Building Muscle
Here’s a topic that I’m not sure people talk about quite enough. But think about it: there’s a REASON that runners wear spandex, and there’s a reason that weight-lifters wear tank tops. What might those reasons be? Let’s explore this a little in conjunction with building muscle.
What to Eat to Build Muscle
This should be an easy one, but for some reason, it’s not. I’ve been working out and building muscle for years with a good degree of success, but even I still struggle to find the “perfect” foods and drinks to help me build and maintain it.

Gaining Muscles Is All Mental
O.K., so not ALL mental; but sort of…let me explain.
Let’s take a common scenario of Joe Everyman working out. It’s set three of bench-pressing, and his muscles are starting to weaken, and it’s tough to lift the last rep. What happens inside his head? There are thoughts of “My muscles can’t do it”, “I’m too tired”, or “I’ve lifted enough this time…good enough!” But you know what?
